The Peon Pulpit's Best Shows On Television (2010)

  1. Best News Show - RedEye W/Greg Gutfeld (FOX)
  2. Best Reality Series - The Haunted (Discovery/Animal Planet) Stretching the 'reality' series designation, but all the other reality series are clearly fake as well. This one is at least interesting.
  3. Best Drama Series - Dexter (Showtime)
  4. Best Documentary Series - Frontline (PBS)
  5. Best Comedy Show - Tosh.0 (Comedy Central)
  6. Best Political Show - The McLachlan group (TMG)
  7. Best Guilty Pleasure TV - America's Funniest Home Videos [ABC/Syndication] - I love this show...guaranteed laughs for me.
  8. Best Educational/Documentary Series - Top Gear [BBC] - Even if I'm not a real petrolhead, I appreciate Jeremy Clarkson's sense of humor (it's also clear that Clarkson is the real-life blueprint for Alan Partridge)

Wow, a tough task since TV is sooooo bad in 2010. However, there are four worth watching:

ESPN's 30 for 30 series is hands down the best series in memory. While understandably uneven given the number of documentaries at issue, an incredibly creative concept (30 documentaries from different directors covering events during the time period of ESPN's first 30 years) that has its share of stunning moments.

HBO's Real Sports. Still "can't miss TV" after more than a decade.

48-Hours Mystery on CBS. You couldn't write stories this chilling and compelling.

That Metal Show on VH-1 Classic. A funny and yet surprisingly in-depth discussion of heavy metal. Needs to be expanded to an hour with some live music portion, however.

I agree with 'That Metal Show'. I wish it were longer.

I've yet to see 30 for 30, in spite of being told so much about it. When is it on? I see it's on ESPN classic all day long, but apparently I don't get that channel (???).
