Cameras are everywhere these days. check out Flickr and you'll soon see that camera phones are one of the most popular cameras out there. The iPhone was responsible for over 17,000 of the pictures uploaded just yesterday. In fact, the top 5 camera phones were used to upload nearly 40,000 picutres yesterday. Video is everywhere as well, as most camera phones have video capability. The police have started to realize that a lot of the time they are on the street, they're being watched and possibly recorded.
So this brings us to the point of this post. Where are all the pictures of the ghosts and monsters? A recent scan of the recent 'ghost' pictures has led me to a sad reality. About 80% of paranormal 'ghost' pictures these days are of the orb variety. Orbs, if you're not aware, are basically photos of dust particles in the air passed off as weird paranormal sightings. I'm not sure when these lame photos began to be passed off as ghosts, but it was a sad day for the hard working paranormal investigator. Another 19% of the pictures are equally lame lens flair pictures which are passed off as 'ectoplasm'. I hope the last 1% is something more interesting, but I really haven't seen it yet. Take a look and let me know if you find anything interesting.
And where are the pictures of the Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot and UFOs???

Great post. I recently thought the same thing - only with regard to UFOs where the visited always seem to not have a camera at the time of the abduction. Bigfoot is more about the lack of bones with all the housing development and logging. However, Nessie is f**king real my man!!
But I digress. There is a larger issue and it's not just the result of cell phone cameras, but the huge advances in cheap digital cameras. In short, how much longer can photographers exist? How many years before they are the subject of the snarky late night ponderings of "remember the diaper service man? - Yeah, and how about how mom and dad PAID somebody to take pictures!!" Today, ANYONE can take great pictures. This is due in part to advances in cameras and in part to the ability to take huge numbers of cheap digital photos - some percentage of which will be extraordinary, the rest simply dragged and dropped in the trash can icon. In the olden days, you went to a photographer to ensure that you would get a couple of good shots - something not possible with the Kodak Instamatic and a week of waiting to see 20 expensive blurry photos in a white Revco bag - remember the famous "black bear at night" photos? Now think of how many times you have looked at somebody's photo album of a trip and said "holy shit, that is an incredible shot - how did you get the solar eclipse to fall on Mount Fuji and create a perfect iscosceles triangle on little Hunter's face?" Only to get an answer like "Oh, no biggie - Kelly took that with her chin when she was holding the baby and assembling the stroller while parallel parking the Mini Van." If I were a photographer, I would be seriously looking at those "secret system" real estate tapes from the asian guy with the ladies on the boat at 2:30 in the morning. That, or be the guy at the Photography exhibit at Obsolete Land at Disney.
