If you haven't figured it out yet, the whole Red vs. Blue concept is a media ploy designed to make you feel that there are only two political choices out there: RED or BLUE.
The truth is, that Red Vs. Blue is the media's own concoction (specifically Tim Russert's) designed to limit the choices they need to cover. They don't have to worry about covering too many political conventions for example, because after all, there's only the Red one and the Blue one.
Resist the media's attempt to dumb down the American political process.

Let's be clear, Russert did not come up with the red state; blue state analogy - anymore than when I see the Empire State Building, it means I built it with my own hands on weekends. The media's infatuation with this guy - bordering on a full blown man crush - is just downright silly. Just wait, Russert will soon be credited for bringing the dry marker white board into national prominence - oh, shit I am too late!
Here's the deal. Red and blue have long been the colors of the states on the election night big board since those are the colors of the flag (remember, white does not show up well on TV). Not to mention that other countries (e.g. Candada) use these same colors as well. Russert just happened to ask a question regarding how many more "red states" were needed - since red was the color NBC just happened to be using that evening for the Republican victories. Ummmm - that's not an invention or a creation. It is called an OBSERVATION. Think of Russert as the Abraham Zapruder of that election night - not JFK or Oswald - just an observer.
It is truly a statement of the modern television media's self absorption that this concept would even be CREDITED to anybody!! Just check out the number of references online to this banal observation.
So, to clarify, Timmy - the long forgotten 18 year old, summer intern flunky who (while losing at Beer Hunter) flipped a coin for the IT guys to determine that color scheme for NBC that night - he, is your damn inventor!!
